What is the purpose of master data? Master data is maintained to support your company's business processes. If a relevant business process relies on master data, it must be available in excellent quality at all times. A master data management system such as SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) guarantees a high level of data quality. Processes, corporate policies, and a dynamic user interface ensure that data is entered correctly the first time and is ready for process use.
However, the integration of master data processes into business processes is often flawed. This is precisely the focus of our work: a complete integration of master data processes with the transactions used in day-to-day business, which require master data of impeccable quality. In this article, we present the process of end-to-end master data process integration using Camelot's solution.
The process
An example of this challenge is invoice generation. When an invoice is issued to your company, a comparison of the supplied data with a supplier master data record is performed. Sometimes supplier master data does not yet exist or information is missing, such as a new bank account.
In a classic scenario, the user must log into the master data management system, enter the missing information, send the request to an approval process, and continue their invoicing process after final approval.
After that, the employee must perform operational work in two different systems. Or worse, the employee sends an email to the master data department, which processes the request after a certain amount of time, enters the data, and then hopefully sends a reply to continue the original tasks. The integration, as well as the user experience, is not satisfactory in either scenario.
Camelot's end-to-end master data process integration.
Camelot offers an end-2-end master data process integration that fully integrates the master data process with the desired business process.
In this scenario, after determining that information is missing or out of date, the user could simply click a button and the system would create an appropriate MDG change request for the existing record or initiate the creation of a new master record. The user would then be able to enter the required data and submit the change request.
But this is just the beginning.
The status of the master data process can be integrated into the operational process overview. As a result, a user would no longer need to check the master data system for a status update, but would see it directly in the business process task inbox.
And what's more, once the master data process is finally released, the business process can run automatically without any user interaction.
What are the benefits?
Camelot's end-2-end integration of the master data process brings business processes and master data even closer together. It ensures that the creation or modification of master data can be triggered from any business process and that the processes and rules defined in your master data system for maintenance are followed.
It also creates transparency within your business processes for handling data.
Camelot's solution significantly increases the efficiency of your business processes with regard to your data and provides a better user experience for your process experts. From a process cost and user experience perspective, it's a win-win.
How it works
Camelot's solution is based on a flexible framework implemented in SAP MDG that allows you to send real-time queries to your master data system from any business process. The solution also provides a dynamic option to send feedback to the business process when status updates or actions are required to be triggered automatically.
